There’s a New Brew in Town

We joined the nice folks in Wheat Ridge’s newest brewery, Mestizo Brew Cantina, for a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 23. While it was too cold to stand outside (a frigid 10 degrees), we squeezed a bunch of folks in front of the kettles to cut the ribbon.

And we like the offerings. The first batch of the sour was already gone but they still had three delightful selections.

Mexican Lager at Mestizo Brew Cantina

I tried the Mexican Lager and found it be light and refreshing, even on a chilly evening. Mestizo is a good place for drinks AND food. Their tacos are quite popular.

Westfax Brewing Co.

While checking out the progress being made on the Casa Bonita reopening, we stopped in to check out a Lakewood favorite – Westfax Brewing.

Located literally right next to Casa Bonita, Westfax has a nice variety of ales.

Here is their entire menu:

As it was a chilly afternoon we warmed up with some Hometown Coffee Stout:

We also sampled the Tears of our Enemies and Bootylicious and were not disappointed in either.

Check them out at https://www.westfaxbrewingcompany.com/ or at 6733 W. Colfax Ave in Lakewood, Colorado.

Ohm Brewing Company

We stopped by Ohm Brewing Company in the Applewood area not long ago. They had a delightful selection of beers from the light and fluffy kolsch – ok, it may have been a bit prickly (Prickly Pear) to a Czech Pilsner to an Imperial Red to their signature OhmMeal Stout and an even richer Whisky Barrel Aged Stout.

We give Ohm a big thumbs up and loved the Stouts:

Vintage Everything Grape Experience

World-renowned sour beer brewer and blender Casey Brewing will be hosting a Vintage Grape Blends Beer Tasting Experience on Sunday, September 4th.
This Experience was specially requested by our Extended Family membership. Grapes are one of our favorite fruits to use because they are so complex. We have picked several varieties of grape beers to compare side by side: Chardonnay, Riesling, Chambourcin, Gewürztraminer and Merlot Grapes. Each grape variety offers something different to the base beer with which we age it. In this Experience we are tasting our Casey Family Preserves base beer, also known more recently as our Fruit Stand Preserves, and our Oak Theory base beer, The Cut, both aged with different grape varieties. If you love juicy yet subtle sweetness in your Farmhouse Ales this Experience is for you.

2015 – Casey Family Preserves – Chardonnay

Vintage Everything Cherry Experience – Casey Brewing & Blending – Saturday, August 6

World-renowned sour beer brewer and blender Casey Brewing will be hosting a Vintage Everything Cherry Beer Tasting Experience on Saturday August 6th.

This Experience was specially requested by the Casey Brewing Extended Family membership. Cherries were one of the first fruits Troy ever used for blending. The experience will start with the first sour cherry beer made with cherries that Troy hand-picked himself back in 2014, Balaton Cherry Fruit Stand. He has pulled other blends that highlight the best of the cherry blends they have ever done over the years. He has pulled two different cherry varieties of The Cut, which is Oak Theory, which is aged for up to 14 months in oak barrels and aged on fresh cherries. These are some of the oldest fruited beers in Casey’s cellar that they save for occasions like this. If you love Kriek beers or anything with cherries, then you will love this Experience.

Bottles to be opened-

2016 – The Cut – Danube Sour Cherry
2016 – The Cut – “The Red” Cherry Blend
